SASKATOON - One man has been arrested after bear spray was discharged into a business yesterday; several other bear spray incidents continue to occur throughout the city.

On April 16 at around 8:30 p.m., police were called to a business in the 600 block of Idylwyld Drive North for a report of bear spray being discharged inside. While responding, officers were updated that the suspect was now in a parking lot outside the business attempting to fight with staff. Officers arrived and arrested the suspect without further incident; he was found to be in possession of bear spray.

As a result, the 18-year-old man was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and mischief under $5,000. He was also found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Between 4 p.m. on April 16 and 2:30 a.m. on April 17, officers responded to at least eight other incidents in which bear spray was reported being produced or discharged. The suspect(s) and victim(s) were known to one another in some but not all of those incidents. No additional arrests have been made but police are continuing to investigate and respond to reports of bear spray in the community.
