Southeast College students received $35,150 in scholarships and bursaries at the college’s Industry-Education Luncheon, held on May 15 at the Weyburn Legion Hall.

The awards were presented to students in Weyburn programs including Adult Basic Education, third class power engineering, continuing care assistant, hairstylist, practical nursing and university programs.

“It’s an opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that our students put into their education, and point out to people some of the great opportunities our college provides our students through our relationships with various partners,” said Jeff Richards, vice-president of strategic development for the college.

Southeast College scholarships and bursaries are made possible by donations from community organizations, businesses and individuals, as well as through fundraising events such as the college’s Swing for Scholarships golf tournaments, one of which is held at the Weyburn Golf Club every year.

Eligible funds are matched by the ministry of Advanced Education through the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program. Of the $35,150 awarded in Weyburn, $15,450 was contributed through this program.
