The annual pre-Christmas lunch at Bienfait Weldon School on Dec. 22 was not just a popular event for students, it drew people from the community as well.

Tiffany Fisher, who is part of the Weldon school community council (SCC), said they served lots of food, and it was a perfect amount of food for the event. The SCC and the school’s teachers hosted the luncheon.

The school’s student body, staff and teachers were joined by another 60 to 100 people from the community for the lunch. The meal was served on the last day of classes before the Christmas break.

“It was nice to see more people from the community,” said Fisher.

Those who attended enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal, highlighted by turkey, as well as dessert. It went off without a hitch, she said.

Fisher noted the supper has been taking place since 2005. At that time, it was the school’s principal and secretary who served a meal for the students and staff.

In recent years, the supper has been expanded to the community.

“It’s to show our Christmas spirit,” said Fisher. “It brings the community together and the kids together, and it just shows them that if we work together, at the end of the day, on the last day of school, we have something to give to each other.”

The lunch closed out December activities at the school, and also wrapped up the different activities the students, the teachers and the SCC have done to give back to the community and the surrounding areas.
