Arcola School’s Leadership 30 class organized an indoor snowball fight, which was a hit amongst students in the school. The event was held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the school gymnasium. Students could participate in the event by bringing a pair of socks to donate to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
The Leadership 30 class was also assisted in their efforts by King’s Department Store, which donated socks to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
“We thought it was a great way to get into the holiday spirit and to also give to people in need,” Christy McNeil, one of the Leadership 30 students helping run the event, explained.
The event was open to youth in grades one through 12 and was a hit as kids dodged, ducked, and threw socks.
Teacher Carlee Annis, says that the Leadership 30 class has helped develop youth’s leadership skills and encouraged them to take roles organizing events they otherwise wouldn’t do.
Annis says they run events daily in the classroom; but, have organized snow removal in the community, craft club during the school’s lunch break, two youth have been going to Golden West weekly, some young men hosted a motor mentorship program focused on mechanic knowledge, and a variety of lunchtime activities including a dodgeball tournament and volleyball tournament.
