The Estevan Sharks water polo mini atom and atom teams had their first taste of the water at a home tournament and several teams took away some wins at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre.
The atom girls had a lot of new players this year and Alianna Young scored her first goal of the year to open the tournament against Regina. Later, Tayla Gervais ended the game with three goals, while Lily Knoll added two assists and Sadie Smith played well defensively as they had a 7-6 victory.
The ended the tournament with a 1-3 record.
The mini atom teams were then on the schedule with two teams of played age 5-8 taking to the pool. The Sharks' Blue team, with Hayden Baniulis and Ryden Summers scoring a pair of their goals, won 4-0 over the Regina Armada. They went 3-2-1 in the tournament. The White Sharks began with a 3-0 win over the Armada and also finished the tournament 3-2-1.
The atom boys were split into the Tiger Sharks and Hammerhead Sharks teams. The Hammerhead Sharks finished the tournament 6-0 with the help of Logan Dalziel, Noah Mvula and Kristian Baniulis and the Tiger Sharks had Lucas Dzeryk and Dierks Milford help lead the way to a 5-1 record.
“The point of this first tournament is to help our new players figure out the game and for our returning players to brush up on their skills and show leadership to our younger players. Our veteran players were definitely out there in the water helping guide her new teammate and that is what this tournament is all about,” coach David Dzeryk said in a press release.
Also on the week, the cadet girls traveled to Regina for their season opener. They went 3-1 in the pool there, with many players under the league age limit and playing up in their league level.
This weekend, atom and mini atom players will be in Regina for a tournament Nov. 5 and the bantam players will be in Regina Nov. 6
