EPS called to attempted scams

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service continue to receive reports of attempted scams.

The EPS was called regarding a fraud April 2. The suspect advised someone their vehicle registrations had expired and provided a link to provide payment. The intended victim contacted SGI directly and confirmed that all of their vehicle registrations were up to date. Please report any similar occurrences to your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

A second scam attempt was reported in which the victim was directed to provide bitcoin or else intimate photos of that person would be released online. No personal information was provided to the scammer and no funds were sent.

A report of a youth uttering threats against another was received. The matter remains under investigation.

The EPS members kept the peace while an individual retrieved personal belongings from a residence where they had been staying.

Members responded to a disturbance at a multi-occupant residence. The subject of the complaint left prior to police attendance, but was located later in the shift and cautioned about his behaviour.

Several compliance checks were conducted on individuals in the community that are bound by court-ordered release conditions. All those checked were found to be in compliance with their respective requirements.

EPS members attended to a convenience store on the west side of Estevan on April 1 to investigate a report of a possible theft from the business. The investigation determined that no theft had occurred and the report was unfounded.

Members attended to a residence at the request of the homeowner, who required assistance to remove an unwanted guest. The individual left without incident upon police arrival.

Police responded to a report of a semi on fire on the Highway 39 bypass. Upon arrival, members extinguished the fire and remained on scene until the RCMP attended to assume control as it was in their jurisdiction. The EPS said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The EPS received a complaint of a suspicious individual in a backyard in the Hillside area. Members attended the area but were unable to locate the individual.

The EPS received a report March 31 of a break and enter in progress at a downtown apartment building. Members attended and determined the landlord and service people were accessing the building to perform work, and no break-in had occurred.

A purple phone wallet was turned in to the EPS containing several cards and ID. No contact information has been determined for the individual but the owner was asked to attend the police station to collect the items.

A report of a suspicious person entering backyards was received. Members attended and determined that the male was raking leaves for homeowners to earn some money.

EPS received two separate reports of possible domestic disturbances. In each instance, members attended and determined that verbal arguments had occurred between partners, however nothing criminal had occurred and all parties were safe and well.
