ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) handled a number of calls on New Year's Eve, and had a few more calls for service on the first day of 2025.
The EPS conducted multiple high-visibility check stops on Dec. 31, during which 127 vehicles were checked to ensure they had sober drivers. Eighteen mandatory approved screening device demands were made and all drivers provided breath samples within the pass range.
Police received a report of a stolen Xbox. Statements were provided and the matter is under investigation.
Police arrested a 49-year old Estevan man on outstanding warrants related to failing to report to his probation officer. He was released with a new court date in February.
While out on patrol, members located a male walking in the middle of the street and yelling at vehicles. Police spoke with the male and determined he was upset as he had fallen and passers-by did not stop to make sure he was okay. No injuries were reported and he was sent on his way.
Police were dispatched to an assault in progress in the Hillside area. The suspects left in a vehicle prior to EPS members arriving. The victim sustained minor injuries and was medically treated by EMS at the scene. The matter remains under investigation.
A 30-year old man was arrested for breaching conditions of a probation order. He was transported to the police station and lodged in cells until the following morning.
EPS received a report on Jan. 1 of a coyote in a backyard in southwest Estevan. Members attended and observed the coyote leaving the property. They spoke with the homeowner regarding ways of keeping the animal out of the area.
A report came in of a suspicious vehicle parked in south Estevan. Members located the vehicle and spoke with the owner, who was subsequently sent on his way.
A curfew check on a male resulted in him being charged with failing to comply with release conditions. He was arrested and lodged in cells.
A curfew check on a second male resulted in him being charged with failing to comply with release conditions as well.
