ESTEVAN — The new Estevan Regional Nursing Home committee recently had a meeting with the provincial government to discuss the latest on the long-awaited project.
In an email to SaskToday, Liddy Hilderman, the interim executive director for community and foundation relations at the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said the long-term care project will progress through the pre-design phase in 2025-26.
The meeting in early April saw individuals from the Ministry of Health, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement meet with representatives of the new nursing home committee, as well as Estevan Mayor Tony Sernick and city manager Jeff Ward. Hilderman said it was an opportunity to share the current project status and identify potential design features the community or foundation would like to have considered.
No other details from the meeting were released.
The Government of Saskatchewan has previously announced a new 129-bed long-term care home will be built near St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan. A ground-breaking ceremony was held last September.
The government has had funding for the new nursing home in each of the past five provincial budgets, including $2.5 million for the 2025-26 fiscal plan.
