ESTEVAN - The Estevan Fire Rescue Service has received another shipment of rapid antigen COVID-19 home test kits for the community. They will be handing out the kits at the fire station on Wednesday.
Due to high demand last time, this time they will be handing out one kit per household and there are five tests in each kit.
“We had to drop it by one so that way everybody's getting some of these test kits,” said Estevan Fire Chief Dale Feser.
Kits will be handed out on Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at the fire station’s main entrance, free of charge, on a first come, first served basis as supplies last.
These tests do not meet workplace standards as far as the negative test results for employers. The antigen rapid tests are only for people who have no symptoms of COVID-19 and can be done at home.
"We ask anybody who is symptomatic or not feeling well, please do not come to the fire station. These are for people that are not showing any signs or symptoms. If you are symptomatic, you want to follow the 8-1-1 line and isolate. Call them, they will direct you to what your next action should be," said Feser.
"We ask people to come down and be patient as we hand them out," Feser said.
Routine, voluntary testing at home will help prevent asymptomatic transmission to those who are not able to be vaccinated and will reduce COVID-19 transmission in the community.
