ASSINIBOIA - An artist and art gallery in Assiniboia were awarded SK Arts grants at the recent deadlines:
Wayne Baerwaldt received a $4,884 Independent Artists grant “to complete research and writing to realize a collaborative artist book project with Richard Boulet.”
Shurniak Art Gallery Inc. received a $20,000 Artists in Communities – Projects grant for the project “Metamorphosis”, which “will engage the community through participatory art workshops, conversational gatherings and a collaborative public sculpture, stimulating Assiniboia’s interest in the arts.”
Independent Artists grants support Saskatchewan artists to pursue their creative work and careers by funding creative, professional development or research projects and the performance of artistic works. These grants support the ongoing development of artistic practice in Saskatchewan.
Artists in Communities grants allow applicants to engage in the arts through performances, exhibitions or workshops led by a professional artist(s) or arts professional, and presented either as a series or as a single event and/or to work with an artist in the research and development of an artistic residency. Artists in Communities is supported by funding from Sask Lotteries through the partnership between SK Arts and SaskCulture.
Coronach Old Town Street Festival receives SaskFestival project grant
The Coronach Old Town Street Festival received a $6,000 SaskFestivals – Projects grant from SK Arts to hold the Old Coronach Street Festival, which will “reinvigorate the rural community through a multi-disciplinary, participatory arts experience, which celebrates Coronach’s unique cultural identity.”
SaskFestivals grants support and encourage festival organizations and series presenters that have a positive impact on the arts in Saskatchewan. SaskFestivals is supported by funding from Sask Lotteries through the partnership between SK Arts and SaskCulture.
At the most recent grant deadlines, SK Arts awarded funding to more than 100 individuals and organizations, totaling almost $840,000. SK Arts funding supports a variety of initiatives, including organizations that provide ongoing programs in the arts, the creative work of professional artists, community art projects and the engagement of professional artists to work in schools with students and teachers.
Established in 1948, SK Arts is the oldest public arts funding organization in North America and second oldest in the world after the Arts Council of Great Britain.
