ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service dealt with 59 occurrences over the weekend, resulting in a total of 21 charges. Of the charges laid, five were under the Criminal Code and 16 were under the Traffic Safety Act.
"There were many Christmas parties happening around the city and we would like to thank the many that found a safe ride home," the EPS posted on their website.
Early Saturday morning, a traffic stop was conducted. A male from Moose Jaw was arrested for outstanding warrants. He was also a suspended driver and ticketed for such under the Traffic Safety Act. He was also subject to a standard field sobriety test and performed poorly, therefore his license was suspended for 72 hours. The matter remains under investigation and Criminal Code charges are pending.
Saturday night, members conducted a traffic stop and a driver from Regina was tested for impaired driving. The male provided two samples of breath, was charged under the Criminal Code and then released with a court date in January.
Several traffic stops were conducted throughout the weekend, resulting in charges under the Traffic Safety Act. The EPS reminds the public to travel for the road conditions, which might mean they are required to travel under the posted speed limit to ensure proper stopping time.
Members located a male who was a suspect in a theft that occurred in late November. He was arrested and charged for theft under $5,000. He will appear in court in January to speak to those charges.
Sunday morning, the Estevan Police received a 911 call for a report of a stolen truck. The vehicle was located a short time later, however, the suspects had fled the scene. The matter remains under investigation. Police remind the public not to leave their vehicles running while unattended.
The same day, police were also dispatched to a motel on the east side of Estevan for a report of an assault. Suspects had left the scene prior to members' arrival. A female from Alberta was located and arrested for assault with a weapon and mischief. She was released with a court date later in January.
Other calls for service included domestic disputes, people reporting scams, false alarms, driving/parking complaints, harassing communications and intoxicated subjects.
