These accomplishments reflect the vibrant spirit and dedication of our community, says Roy Bot.

ESTERHAZY — Randy Bot may be new to the mayor’s seat, but he served on Esterhazy Town Council previous to the fall election. The World-Spectator checked in with him to see what 2024 has been like in his view.

What were some of the highlights for the Town of Esterhazy this year?

Reflecting on this past year, Esterhazy has experienced incredible progress and achievements. While the advancement of our regional water treatment plant is a standout success, there are so many other highlights worth celebrating.

The community pool is one. With a team of 12 dedicated lifeguards, we were able to offer a variety of programs, including swimming lessons, Aquatone, and public swimming, making our pool a hub for fun and fitness.

The golf course—our beautiful nine-hole golf course in the valley was in the best shape it’s been in years, providing a fantastic experience for golfers of all levels.

In terms of trails and outdoor recreation, the valley’s picturesque walking trails and newly constructed mountain bike trails have become must-visit attractions for residents and visitors alike.

The Golden Jets Seniors Club has been hard at work organizing activities, including dances, which continue to bring joy and connection to our community.

Our integrated health care facility—the planning and progress toward our integrated health care facility have been truly inspiring, showcasing the strength and collaboration of our region as we work together to make this vision a reality.

These accomplishments reflect the vibrant spirit and dedication of our community.

What were some of the challenges the town faced this year?

Every year comes with its challenges, and 2024 was no exception. I’d say our biggest challenge this year has been managing the impacts of inflation, particularly with the ongoing construction of our regional water treatment plant.

Was there anything council did not succeed in this year that you’re hoping to accomplish in 2024?

When it comes to areas where council may not have succeeded, I wouldn’t say there was anything we failed at. That said, there are definitely issues we need to address in the upcoming budget. Overall, I view 2024 with a positive outlook and see 2025 as an opportunity to continue working towards achieving our goals.

Five to 10 years from now, what do you expect to see in Esterhazy?

Over the past year, I believe we’ve taken meaningful steps forward as a community. Looking ahead to the next five to 10 years, I envision our regional water system providing reliable service to neighbouring communities. I also hope to see a newly constructed integrated healthcare facility, fully staffed and equipped to meet our region’s needs.

By using these developments as a foundation, I’d like to foster consistent growth in both Esterhazy’s residential and business sectors. With that growth, I aim to work towards lowering the cost of living for our residents.

I truly believe that with the dedicated council we have in place, these goals are within reach. I’m excited to continue working hard for the people of Esterhazy and to build a thriving future together.
