ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service was dispatched to southwest Estevan on Tuesday night because of a suspicious person who was possibly carrying a firearm.

The EPS said members were able to intercept the individual. Members had firearms at ready as a precaution since it was a call regarding a suspicious person with firearm.  Initial observations by members did indicate signs consistent with a firearm until they made contact with the subject and determined it was a pool cue. No further police action was necessary.

In other recent police news, the EPS dealt with 84 occurrences during the Thanksgiving long weekend, including reports of harassment, theft under $5,000, suspicious people or vehicles, uttering threats, excessive noise, unwanted guests in liquor establishments and businesses, and possible impaired drivers.

Officers attended to several complaints of individuals causing a disturbance. Police were able mediate the situation without arrests.

Police are investigating a mischief to a vehicle in the Estevan Comprehensive School's parking lot.

Members attended to a complaint of a youth with a weapon at the Estevan skate park. Upon police arrival, the young male in question was located, transported to his parents' residence and warned of the consequences of his actions. The item was not  used in any manner or threatening manner.

Police attended to a local liquor establishment on Oct. 8 and arrested a 61-year-old New Brunswick man for remaining in a liquor establishment after being asked to leave, public intoxicated and causing a disturbance. The accused then made threats towards police. He was also charged with uttering threats and was released for court in Estevan in December.
