Fights and other disputes dominate police agenda

On the night of June 1, a 25-year-old Estevan man was arrested for being intoxicated in public and lodged in cells for the rest of the night. It was reported that a fight had occurred at a restaurant lounge earlier in the evening and a glass door had been shattered in the melee. Estevan Police Service (EPS) members were called and made the arrest and not only charged the man for being intoxicated in public but also for re-entering the lounge after having been removed from the premises earlier.

On the morning of June 3, EPS members were called to the scene of a domestic dispute in the central part of the city. When police arrived, they learned that a female occupant of a residence had been assaulted by a male occupant. The 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and given a court date later this month.

A call regarding a possible gas leak attracted police attention on the afternoon of June 3. The leak was reported in the central area of the city. When they attended, EPS members directed the evacuation of the building while SaskEnergy and Estevan Fire Rescue members attended the scene to shut off the gas and to make repairs to the utility. When those were completed, the residents were allowed to return and no further action was required.

Motor vehicle accidents on the city's east side created more activity that same day. Several vehicles were seriously damaged in the incidents and required tow truck services to remove them from the scenes of the collisions. Fortunately no injuries were reported but several drivers were charged for being in breach of a number of traffic safety regulations.

On the night of June 3, and early morning hours of June 4, EPS members were called to a local lounge in response to a report of a fight having broken out between two men. When they attended, EPS personnel arrested a 22-year-old Alberta man for being intoxicated in public and for being in breach of the peace. He was placed in cells overnight.

Police also attended to several noisy party complaints that same night. All hosts and party-goers were reminded of the City's noise bylaw.

A fight that broke out in the central part of the city on the night of June 3, required police attention. They arrested a 22-year-old Estevan man for being intoxicated in public and he was lodged in cells for the remainder of the night.

That same night police received a call from the 400 block of Third Street regarding an unwanted guest in a residence. When they arrived, they arrested a 45-year-old Estevan man for being intoxicated in public. He was removed from the residence and taken to the police cells where he spent the rest of the night.

A 22-year-old Estevan man was arrested that night for driving while impaired and driving while his blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent. He has a court date later this month.

The next items on the police agenda included their attending to more noisy parties and responses to complaints of fireworks being set off within the city limits. All matters were addressed and while they were busy tending to those matters, they also arrested a 21-year-old Estevan man on a number of outstanding warrants. He was taken into custody and appeared in court on June 6 to answer to various charges.
