MACOUN - One person is dead following a collision that occurred on Highway 39 near Macoun on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., the Estevan RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision on Highway 39. RCMP officers from Carnduff, the Traffic Services section, the Integrated Border Enforcement Team and the Estevan Police Service also attended to assist.
An initial investigation has determined a truck and a van travelling on Highway 39 collided. A semi-trailer unit wound up blocking the highway completely to avoid the collision.
The 37-year-old male driver of the van from Regina was pronounced deceased at the scene.
All five occupants of the truck - four adults and one youth - reported no injuries to police.
The lone adult driver of the semi reported no injuries.
The investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing by the Estevan RCMP and an RCMP collision reconstructionist, in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Coroners' Service. The road was closed for an on-scene investigation and has since reopened.
The collision occurred during a late October snowstorm that struck southeast Saskatchewan. A travel not recommended advisory was issued about three hours after the collision.
No further information was immediately released.
