REDVERS — As last week’s regular meeting held Nov. 27 was the first for the newly-elected Redvers Town Council, a number of committee positions were decided.
“They are two-year terms,” Chief Administrative Officer Tricia Pickard explained, adding that councillors choose boards that interest them or align with a particular skill set they may already have. While the committee appointments are two years in duration, council has a look at committees every year. Appointments for 2024-25 are as follows:
EMO Plan and Co-ordinator - All Council. Fire Department - Jeremy Kamp, Raylene Gordon (Accounting Assistant). Human Resources and Employee Relations - Ken Thomas, Donna Gilbertson, and Dawn Eilers. Infrastructure, Roads and Streets - Thomas, Owen Gavelin, Mayor Brad Bulbuck, and Kamp. Redvers and District Health Foundation - Thomas. Redvers and District Health Foundation Fundraising Committee - Ava Steenbruggen (Junior Councillor). Southeast Medical Group - Bulbuck and Thomas. Library Board - Gilbertson and Eilers. Recreation Board - Gavelin and Kamp. Recreation Foundation - Thomas and Gilbertson. Redcoat Mutual Aid - Kamp and Jena Cowan (member at large). Tourism - Gilbertson and Eilers. Infrastructure, Water and Sewer - All Council. Promotions, Economic Development and Collaboration Meetings - Bulbuck, Gilbertson, Gordon, Gavelin Tricia Pickard (CAO), Cowan (Assistant CAO). Redvers Activity Centre - Eilers. Redvers Housing - Gilbertson (chair).
Holiday office hours
Council approved a resolution that the Town Office operate with reduced hours around Christmas and New Year’s. Pickard proposed that the office close at noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, and that the office close for the entire day on Dec. 25, 26, and Jan. 1.
December council meeting stays
Redvers Town Council meets once per month, and December’s regular meeting lands on Dec. 18. In case members of council might have some sort of scheduling conflict with that last meeting date of the year, Pickard asked if the meeting should stay or not.
“We did actually keep that date, the 18th,” she said, adding that the month tends to be a busy time for many. “Our council was good with that date, but I just wanted to double-check. So it’ll definitely be the 18th.”
Training approved
In a resolution, council agreed with a request from Pickard to attend three virtual classes through the Municipal Leadership Development Program with a total cost of $598.50.
“Training is important, and sometimes it gets put on the back burner,” Pickard said. “Council is very good at allowing us to do ongoing training. Basically, if we want to go, they’ll allow us to go.”
No more muskrats
A muskrat problem was promptly taken care of over at the lagoon, with the town requesting the assistance of Ken Martel to trap the pests.
“We did have some issues with muskrats out at the lagoon, and they can really take over,” Pickard confirmed. “They were doing some damage, so we got him in to do some pest control for us.”
The resolution before council was to send a thank-you card and some Chamber Bucks in recognition of Martel’s service.
