The Weyburn Wildlife Federation handed out year-end awards during the annual Fred Garner Memorial Banquet and trophy night on Saturday night.
The banquet was held at the Cugnet Centre for the first time in the club’s history, and it was reported as a sold-out evening. The night featured game meat during supper, donated by local hunters.
There were also silent and live auctions during the evening. The trophies highlighted the evening. Glen Fleming received the Fred Garner Memorial Award for Outstanding Member of the Year.
The Doug Lanz Memorial Award for best overall big game animal, taken by muzzleloader, was won by Brendon Thompson. He bagged a Typical Mule Deer weighing 168 7/8.
Monica Gilchrist won the best big game animal, taken by a woman. This award was sponsored by Len and Jeanette Olfert family. Monica bagged a bull elk weighing 291 0/8.
There were three Grand Slam awards received, and the category was sponsored by Smoky Ridge Farms. George Kiraly won for bagging a bull elk, cow moose and whitetail buck. Brendan Thompson bagged a mule deer buck, whitetail buck and black bear. Cindy Paslawski bagged a cow elk, whitetail buck and antelope buck.
Ray Scrupps won the black bear award, sponsored by Paul Chinski. He bagged a bear weighing 21 4/16 with his rifle. This also won the Henry Kelsey bear first place in Saskatchewan for 2015.
Jesse Thompson won the moose award, sponsored by Joe Honig and Vic Tremblay. Monica Gilchrist won the elk award, sponsored by Team Tundra Wildlife Artists Canada.
Cindy Paslawski won the antelope award, sponsored by the Guenther family in memory of Bruno. She tied for second place for the Henry Kesley buck in Saskatchewan.
Brendon Thompson won the typical buck award for mule deer, sponsored by Reinhart Weger family. Samantha Evans won the Larry Jacobson memorial award for junior whitetail buck. Brent Olfert won the typical buck for whitetail deer, sponsored by Travelodge. Chet Paslawski won the good award, sponsored by York Jewellers.
Darryl Mutrie won the pheasant award, sponsored by Walter and Lorraine Tytlandsvik in memory of their son Todd. Dallas Keifer won the perch award, sponsored by Parrish & Heimbecker.
Darryl Seitz won the walleye from Nickle Lake award, sponsored by the Nickle Lake park board. Bryan Furgason won the walleye award, sponsored by the Weyburn Credit Union. Karen Worman won the northern pike award, sponsored by Barber Motors in memory of Mike Litovitch.
There were no entries for the Larry Jacobsen Memorial Award junior mule deer buck; the mule deer buck taken by archery, sponsored by the Weyburn Wildlife Federation; the non-typical mule deer buck, sponsored by the Kenway family; the non-typical whitetail deer buck, sponsored by Dempsey Laird Trucking; or the whitetail deer buck taken by archery, sponsored by Team Tundra Wildlife Artists.
