SHAUNAVON — Shaunavon Arts Council hosted The Prairie Sons March 10 at Darkhorse Theatre for an evening of classical piano and cello music.
Classical pieces were interspersed with Canadian pop classics and Métis fiddle music. The Prairie Sons are Godwin Friesen, pianist, and David Liam Roberts, cellist. The duo is part of Prairie Debut's 2024-25 lineup of classical and world musicians that the organization presents to smaller communities across the prairie provinces and the Yukon.
This tour is part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Council's Stars for Saskatchewan series. Friesen, who grew up in Saskatoon and Roberts, originally from Winnipeg, returned to their prairie roots for this tour from their current homes in Montreal and Switzerland. The duo noted that their tour includes 26 performances across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. They expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic response from the Shaunavon audience.
Approximately 75 concert-goers came to the evening performance at Darkhorse Theatre. Earlier in the day, they had two school performances for elementary and high school students in the community and also went to Eastend School the following day. The next Shaunavon Arts Council performance is on Friday, April 4 and features a theatrical production, Every Brilliant Thing, presented by Burnt Thicket Theatre.
