REGINA - The New Democrats have their full slate of candidates in place for the 2024 provincial election.
The NDP made the announcement of all of their seven remaining candidates during the nomination meeting of leader Carla Beck in Regina Lakeview on Wednesday.
Those are Dianne Twietmeyer in Cannington, CJ Binkley in Carrot River Valley, Clayton Poole in Cut Knife-Turtleford, Phil Smith in Estevan-Big Muddy, Cindy Hoppe in Kindersley-Biggar, Melanie Dyck in Melfort, and Seth Lendrum in Weyburn-Bengough.
Beck herself is the 61st and final nominated candidate for the NDP and she accepted her nomination for Regina Lakeview Wednesday night at the Italian Club. Beck has held Regina Lakeview since 2016.
“My name is Carla Beck and I’m running to be your Premier,” she said in her nomination speech, text of which was released to the media.
Both the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP now have full slates of candidates as the parties prepare for a provincial election call, widely expected to happen early next week. The two parties have continued with a fully of pre-election announcements and events this week.
In addition to Beck’s nomination meeting, the NDP also held a town hall meeting Thursday in Regina in which incumbent MLAs Aleana Young (running in Regina South Albert) and Meara Conway (running in Regina Elphinstone-Centre) were joined by Speaker Randy Weekes, in the wake of Weekes’ own falling out with the Saskatchewan Party.
Sask Party ministers have continued to appear at government announcements throughout the province, mainly of investments previously confirmed in the provincial budget. Meanwhile, Premier Scott Moe was in Shellbrook Thursday, where he spent the day doing several election-profile interviews with provincial media. Among those outlets was SaskToday, which will be running profiles of Moe and the other party leaders on our website during this campaign.
The remaining parties continued to announce candidates this week in advance of the election call. The latest candidates announced this week by the Saskatchewan United Party are Doug Forster in Yorkton and Terri Davis in Prince Albert Northcote. Meanwhile, leader Jon Hromek has a number of events scheduled including in Lumsden on Monday.
The major news this week from the Progressive Conservatives and their leader Rose Buscholl was the release of their affordability plan.
According to the PCs news release on Wednesday, their plan focuses on home building, home buying and general family affordability, and includes grants, programs and tax breaks in these areas.
