REGINA — Regina’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program blitz Sept. 24 and 25 resulted in 233 speeding citations, including school zones, along with various other traffic tickets.
Policing partners from across the province were in the city for the a STEP exercise. The operation combines provincial resources to take traffic enforcement and education to various Saskatchewan cities throughout the year. Regina’s STEP blitz included representatives from the Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, Prince Albert Police Service, Moose Jaw Police Service, Estevan Police Service, Rosetown Combined Traffic Services (CTSS), Melfort CTSS, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Rail Police Service and RCMP from across the province.
Officers and civilian staff from these organizations worked together to improve road safety, with the ultimate goal of reducing injuries and fatalities on Saskatchewan roads, according to a Regina Police Service press release.
The project included traffic stop checks at various Regina locations, including near school zones and in residential areas. The crews primarily focused on speeding, unregistered vehicles, proper use of car seats, illegal use of cellphones and seat belt violations. Officers were also on the lookout for other offences, such as impaired drivers.
