Canora RCMP: 3-way brawl results in hospitalization, charges

The fight started over a property dispute. Weapons seized on scene included a shovel, pitchfork, axe handle, and a crowbar.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP dealt with impaired driving, threats and theft.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3; some of which included:

  • one 911 Act call,
  • one assault,
  • one assault with a weapon,
  • one breach of peace,
  • one Child Welfare Act call,
  • one fraud, two mischief,
  • one offender management,
  • one impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
  • two other provincial calls, one peace bond,
  • one suspicious person,
  • two thefts,
  • 10 traffic offenses,
  • one Trespass Act call,
  • one uttering threats,
  • two vehicle collisions,
  • one wellbeing check, and
  • one prisoner.

Fighting with shovel, pitchfork, crowbar

On Sept. 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a land location in the RM of Good Lake. The caller reported three men were fighting and hitting each other with weapons.

Police attended and learned the fight started over a property dispute. The three men were charged with assault with a weapon. One of the men had to be taken to hospital by EMS for his injuries.

Weapons seized on-scene included a shovel, pitchfork, axe handle, and a crowbar. The investigation is ongoing.

Fleeing from police

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to assist with traffic stop on Highway 9 by Crystal Lake on Sept. 30. A male driver had failed to stop and had fled from a Provincial peace officer attempting to stop the vehicle for speeding. The male driver was later located and found to be impaired.

He was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle while over 80mg%, flight from peace officer, and for obstructing a peace officer. 

Female asked to leave, threatens staff

Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Oct. 1 to threats complaint in Preeceville. Police learned a woman had threatened staff at a business after being informed she was not welcome and was asked to leave.

The woman was charged with uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, and placed on conditions to not attend the business.

Plywood stolen

On Oct. 2, numerous sheets of OSB plywood was reported stolen from a location on Norway Road in Canora. Police continue to investigate.
