Canora RCMP: Man breaks in, steals phone, sends obscene messages

A man broke into a Canora home, stole a cell phone, left the residence and then used the phone to send obscene videos to the victim’s contacts.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP are looking for a stolen camp, seal

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 37 calls from May 2 to May 9, some of which included:

  • one being unlawfully in a dwelling,
  • one break and enter,
  • one Coroners Act call,
  • one criminal harassment,
  • one Corrections and Conditional Release Act call,
  • three failures to comply with undertaking conditions,
  • one false alarm,
  • two Fire Prevention Act calls,
  • two mischiefs,
  • three other provincial calls,
  • two Off-Road Vehicle Act calls,
  • one robbery,
  • two thefts under $5,000,
  • seven traffic offenses,
  • one traffic collision,
  • two Trespass Act calls,
  • one unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • four uttering threats,
  • two wellbeing checks, and
  • three prisoners.

Steals & abuses phone

On May 3, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a break and enter to a residence in Canora. It was reported that a man had walked into a Canora residence at 4:40 a.m. intoxicated with a bottle of open liquor in his hand.

The man stole a cell phone, left the residence, and then used the stolen cell phone to send obscene videos to the victim’s contacts. Police executed a search warrant at the man's residence and recovered the stolen cell phone.

A 34-year-old man from Canora was charged with break and enter, uttering threats, and corrupting morals. The man was remanded into custody.

Stolen camper

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report of a stolen camper on May 3 from the RM of Preeceville. A white 2008 Gulfstream Passport was last seen on March 29, and has a Saskatchewan licence plate of 083HQZ.

Youths with sawed-off shotgun

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a man hitchhiker on Highway 9 south of Canora in possession of a firearm on May 4. Police located and arrested two youths in relation to the firearms call. A sawed-off shotgun was located and seized by police.

A 17-year-old youth was charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized.

Residential fire

On May 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a fire at a residence in Canora. The front siding on the residence caught fire but was extinguished by the Canora Fire Department. The front side of the residence sustained significant damage.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a structure fire in the RM of Preeceville on May 7. The fire spread, causing damage to machinery and hay bales. The Sturgis Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
