Iris Marion Beaton (Junek). June 3, 1919 - August 14, 2014. Iris Beaton passed away peacefully on August 14th at Noric House, Vernon, BC, at the age of 95 years. She will be sadly missed by her family: son Brent Beaton (Evelyn), Victoria BC, and daughters Donna Willson (Jim), Calgary AB, Beverly Beaton, Victoria BC, and Heather Beaton, Golden BC , and by her six grandchildren Trevor, Shelley, Ian, Katherine, James and Adam and six great grandchildren Julia, Michael, Alex, Isabelle, Helena and Allen. Iris was born and raised in Esterhazy, SK. After attending Teacher's College in Regina, she lived at home while teaching at nearby Brookevale School. In 1940 she married Sam Beaton and moved with him to Vancouver, BC, and to St. Thomas, ON, during his time serving with the RCAF during WW2. Later on they settled in the Churchbridge, SK area, farming full time from 1949 to 1956. With a growing family to provide for, both Iris and Sam began new teaching careers. They retired in 1982 and moved to BC. Iris loved reading, gardening, cooking, sewing and playing piano or organ to accompany Sam on his guitar, banjo or mandolin. They also spent several happy years touring in one of their many motor homes. Mom was devoted to her family. Sundays were always a time for church, visiting family or fishing with Sam. Iris was predeceased by her parents, Mary and John Junek, husband Sam Beaton (who passed away in 2003) and by her brother Reg Junek. The family would like to thank the staff at Noric House, Vernon, for their kind and compassionate care of our dear mother. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 21 at 2pm in Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
