BECKER - Lorne Becker was born on March 6, 1941 in Makaroff, MB. He was the fifth child born to George and Molly Becker following Verna, Beatrice, Roland and Georgianna and followed after by his younger siblings, Beverly and Dennis. Lorne was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Togo on May 18, 1941. Lorne's family farmed in Makaroff until moving to Stornoway, SK in 1948. Lorne loved growing up on the farm and had a special place in his heart for horses. Growing up Lorne also enjoyed playing baseball, especially as the catcher, when the church teams would play after a summer picnic. Lorne also served the church as an elder. Lorne moved to Yorkton and worked in the automotive industry, in several jobs, from trucking to parts to sales and was a salesman when he met Evelyn Bowes, who worked with him as a secretary. They were married at Peace Lutheran Church in Kamsack, SK on August 31, 1968. Shortly after the birth of their son, Darwin, Lorne began work for General Motors as a parts person, a position he held for many years. Lorne's love for horses continued and eventually he had a whole team of horses. A special memory is of the year Darwin was in Kindergarten and his Dad's team of horses took the whole class for a ride. Lorne enjoyed camping with his family for vacations, he was an avid curler and he played many rounds of cards with friends. Lorne passed down his knowledge of sausage making to his son and Darwin continues to make this a family tradition with his own children. His grandchildren have fond memories of shopping trips with Grandpa. Lorne adored his grandchildren, he always had a special treat for them and he made it out to all their extra activities. Lorne spent 15½ years going to the Day Wellness program at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. He thoroughly enjoyed all the outings and fun activities they provided and he waited every day for his Chauffer, Karen, to pick him up. Lorne passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 25, 2017. He was a dearly loved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a baptized child of God and a Christian man who professed the faith and put his trust in Jesus Christ the Saviour. He will be missed, but we trust that we will see him again. Lorne was predeceased by his parents, George and Molly Becker; his parents-in-law, Gordon and Pauline Bowes; his sisters-in-law, Thelma Perkins and Irma Ostopowich; his brothers-in-law, Mervin Bowes, Art Doering, Garry Killniak and Leonard Ruf; his nephew, Dennis Perkins and his niece, Heather Perkins. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Evelyn; his son, Darwin (Marie) of Yorkton, SK; his grandchildren, Michael and Caitlyn; his sisters, Verna Doering of Roblin, MB, Beatrice Ruf of Yorkton, SK, Georgianna (Elmer) Ruf of Yorkton, SK and Beverly (Elwood) of Brunkild, MB; his brothers, Roland (Marlene) Becker of Yorkton, SK and Dennis Becker of Yorkton, SK; sisters-in-law, Margaret Killniak of Norquay, SK, Lil (Reg) Ryde of Eston, SK; brothers-in-law, Vern (Fran) Bowes of Togo, SK, John (Brenda) Bowes of Kamsack, SK, Mel Perkins of Portage la Prairie, MB and Ed Ostopowich of Portage la Prairie, MB as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Andrew Cottrill officiating. The organist, Verna Liebrecht, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Abide With Me". The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. John, with Trent Guenther officiating.
