Arthur Griffith

Arthur Griffith was born on December 27, 1916 on the family farm in the Cherryfield district, near Willowbrook, SK. He was the eldest son of George and Ruth (nee Meays) Griffith. Arthur attended the Cherryfield school. His formal education ended in 1933, when he quit school to start farming. However, his lifetime education and strong determination taught him he could do anything he set his mind to. In 1947, he bought the BA Service Station in Willowbrook which he ran for twelve years. It was during this time that he earned his Journeyman Mechanic papers. Arthur met Florence Luke while he was a patient in the Queen Victoria Hospital in Yorkton where she was a nurse. They were united in marriage on August 5, 1948. Arthur sold the garage in 1959 due to back problems. He continued farming and in 1960 he took a course in Downsview, ON so he could run the diesel turbines at White Spruce, employment he held until he was 65 years of age. He also enjoyed camping, photography, music and telling stories of the past. He liked curling and was one of the original members of the Ace High Club that built the Willowbrook Curling Rink.
