Bernice Saretsky was born on September 24, 1930, the fifth child of Lawrence and Appollonia (Wourms). She grew up and went to school in Marysburg, SK. Her family then moved to Humboldt and Bernice took a job at the hospital, this is where she met the love of her life, Leonard Saretsky. Bernice and Leonard were married on October 3, 1953 at St. Augustine Church in Humboldt. Bernice lived in Watson, then Yorkton where she resided until her passing with family by her side. Bernice was involved with working at the church making cabbage rolls and perogies. ย Her job was pinching them together and she would make many dozen at a time. She really enjoyed her work at the church and the socializing as well. She took care of the coffee at many celebrations; weddings, funerals lunches, fall suppers for many years and she took pride in her work. If you stopped in to visit Bernice, she would always make sure you had coffee and treats or sometimes a meal, making sure you never went home hungry. Bernice was a great cook. She also loved to garden and can her harvest. A great passion of Bernice's was to grow beautiful flowers. Bernice belonged to the C.W.L. for many years and was devoted to going to mass, pilgrimages and had a strong faithful love of her religion. She said her prayers and rosary everyday as this was very important to her. She loved her family, extended family and many friends dearly. Bernice was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Appollonia Weber; husband Leonard Saretsky; sisters Bertha (Joe) Kuevers, Isabel (Frank) Saccucci, Lillian (Matt) Wiegketner, Adela (Ken Portman) (Fred) Armbruster; brothers Leo Weber, Fred (Anne) Weber, Ralph Weber; brother-in-law Bill Vanjoff; nephews Kevin Weber, Gordon Kuevers, Carl Weber and Tony Weber. Bernice leaves to mourn a sister Eileen Vanjoff of Moose Jaw; brother Joe (Erma) Weber of Humboldt; sisters-in-law Mae Weber, of Leduc, AB and Olga Weber of Humboldt; nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends. The Prayer Vigil was held on Monday, October 5, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home with Father Basil Chomos officiating. The lector was Lorrie Anne Weber-Schlitz. The pianist, Lorraine Lysak, led the congregation and members of St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns, "Like A Shepherd", "Psalm 23", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "Day is Done". Members of St. Gerard's C.W. L. led the congregation in praying the Rosary prior to the beginning of the prayer service. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Basil Chomos officiating. The lectors were Shirley Pierce and Joan Snow.ย The pianist, Chris Fisher, led the congregation and members of the parish choir in the singing of the hymns, "This Day God Gives Me", "Psalm 62", "On Eagle's Wings", "Christ Be Our Light", "Song of the Angels" and "Amazing Grace". The Cross Bearer was Michelle Steier, the Gift Bearers were Katrina Stelzner and Deneen Smith, the Communion Minister was Angela Brown and the Intercessions were led by Mary Bybliw. Members of St. Gerard's C.W.L. provided a Guard of Honour. Following a reception in St. Gerard's Parish Complex, the Interment Service took place in the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery in Humboldt, SK with Father Ephraim Mensah officiating. The pall bearers were Larry Saccucci, Dennis Saretsky, Reg Houle, Ken Portman, Robert Kosolofski and Nathan Saretsky.
