Hugh Owen Tamblyn, the first son of Chub and Mary (nee Logan) Tamblyn was born on November 22, 1941 in Yorkton, SK. Hugh passed away suddenly on December 19, 2013 in his home, at York Lake, SK. Hugh was named after a uncle he never knew, a World War II Air Force Hero. Hugh attended Simpson School and then the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. Growing up, he was heavily involved in sports and the Air Cadets. He also spent the summers working for his Uncle Donald at Logan & Black Lumber. Hugh graduated from Y.C.I. in 1959 and started his post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan. He taught for one year in Swan River, MB before moving to Foam Lake, SK, where he taught for two more years. Hugh then decided to return to University to get his degree. This was followed by a move to Lethbridge, where he taught until his retirement in 2000. While in Lethbridge, his only child, Scott was born. Hugh was very actively involved in coaching football and volleyball and also played old-timers hockey with the Bone Crushers. He spent some of his free time driving a tour bus for Northern Bus Lines. Hugh also volunteered much of his time to the Handicapped Riding Association. When Hugh returned to Yorkton in December of 1999, to attend his Mother's funeral, he decided it was time to retire and return to his roots. He retired in early 2000, returned to Yorkton, and had a home built at York Lake. In 2002, he met Gwyne Farrow and after a romantic courtship, they were married on August 29, 2009. He and Gwyne had a great life together, touring the world and RV-ing with the Parkland Good Sam's Club. Hugh also learned the ins and outs of a redi-mix truck, spending a lot of time at Yorkton Concrete. He enjoyed coffee every morning at McDonalds with his buddies - solving the problems of the world! Hugh had a great love of York Lake and of the dogs he and Gwyne shared. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Chub and Mary. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his wife, Gwyne; his son, Scott (Heather) of Edmonton, AB; his brothers, Jim (Jess) of Calgary, SK and their children, Mary-Lynn (Steve) and Charles (Michelle), all of Calgary, AB; Gord (Carol) of Yorkton and their children, Tobi and Kirstie (Darcy) of Saskatoon, SK; Rusty (Loryl) of Yorkton, SK, and Rusty's daughter, Sam of Olds, AB. Also left to mourn his loss are Gwyne's sons, Michael (Romelita) and their children, Russell (Netta) and their daughter, Todd (Ruth) and their children, Jackie (Graydon Beckett) Farrow and their children. Hugh will be sadly missed by his family and the many friends he made during his time in Yorkton. A Celebration of Hugh's life was held on Friday, December 27, 2013 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. The 23rd Psalm was read by family friend, Pat Rawlick and Hugh's step-daughter-in-law, Netta Farrow shared words written with love by Hugh's wife, Gwyne. Taped music selections included, "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys and "The Way Old Friends Do" by Abba. Piper, Sheila MacDonald played "Amazing Grace" as a recessional. The honourary pallbearers were members of the Parkland Good Sam's Club. In accordance with Hugh's wishes, a private family cremation committal will take place at a later date.
