REGINA – A 34-year-old Regina man is facing weapons charges after leading police on an hours-long chase through the city.
A man called police stating he was threatened with a firearm during an attempt to tow a vehicle along the 800 block of Edgar Street, just after 6 p.m. on April 18. The suspect and a female got in the vehicle and left the scene.
Further investigation led police to the 3800 block of Regina Avenue at around 12:40 a.m.
Patrol officers, plainclothes investigators and members of our Canine Unit attended to the scene," said RPS in a media release. "The male suspect initially refused to exit the residence and members of the RPS Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team were called in to assist."
A six-hour standoff ensued, and by 7 a.m. on April 19, the male suspect left the house and was arrested without incident.
"As a result of this investigation, a nearby high school was placed in Secure the Building mode," RPS said.
William Bitternose stands charged with assault with a weapon, use of an imitation firearm, and breach of probation. He will make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court tomorrow morning.
"We thank the public for their cooperation during the course of this investigation," RPS said.
