SASKATOON – Thirty-six-year-old James Spencer Lawn is accused of grabbing a firearm and racking it when police were attempting to escort him out of a house following a domestic dispute.

Police say that they were called to a home in the 2000 block of Munroe Avenue South around 5:30 p.m. on March 31. They spoke with complainants outside while Lawn remained inside the home.

Police were able to make contact with Lawn and escorted him to a room so that he could pack a bag. Saskatoon Police Services say that he became agitated and officers saw him grab a rifle from behind a door. When officers heard him rack the firearm they exited the home and set up a perimeter.

A short time later, police say that Lawn exited the home with the rifle before dropping it on the ground. Police were able to safely arrest him without further incident.

Lawn is charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, three counts of threatening to use a weapon, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of conditions. According to court documents, Lawn has three firearms-related charges from a separate incident.

Lawn appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until April 5.
