A man charged after a police pursuit where an Alberta RCMP officer was injured was sentenced to prison time in a Saskatchewan court, for another incident.

On Feb. 9, in Lloydminster Sask., Provincial Court, Judge Kim Young sentenced Michael Patrick Hill, 23, to six months consecutive for theft over $5,000 and two months consecutive for breach of a curfew.

Hill, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, avoided a trial after he pleaded guilty.

When Judge Young asked Hill if he had anything to say before he was sentenced, Hill responded saying, “I do take responsibility for my actions and I did do what they say I did.”

Hill is now scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park, Alta., Provincial Court Feb. 10 on charges in connection to the police chase where an officer was injured.

Alberta RCMP arrested Hill Jan. 19, 2021. According to police, he was involved in an incident on Jan. 19 in Vermillion, Alta., where a gun was allegedly pointed at someone. Police say the suspects involved fled Vermillion in a black SUV and police located the vehicle about an hour later near Edmonton.

The vehicle was driving south in a northbound lane on Highway 21 near Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. Both Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and Strathcona County Alberta RCMP assisted Vermillion RCMP in the investigation.

While one of the RCMP vehicles was pursuing Hill, it hit the ditch and rolled near Range Road 540. The officer was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Hill was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a peace officer, pointing a firearm, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and failing to comply with conditions.

Alberta RCMP also arrested a twenty-one-year-old woman from Onion Lake who was with Hill. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to make her first court appearance in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on March 17. Alberta RCMP say they will release her name after she makes her first court appearance.
