Wilkie’s Christmas Carol Festival gives back to community

The 65th Carol Festival hosted by St. James CWL collected nonperishable food items, cash and warm clothing for those in need.

WILKIE -- St. James CWL hosted Wilkie’s 65th Carol Festival, Dec. 8, at St. James Church. The song selections sung by our performers assisted those in attendance with Christmas spirit. Numbers were performed by the Norman Carter Glee Club, Erin Squires, The United Church School and Youth Group, and the St. James Junior Choir. We also had songs by The Caroling Cousins, Melanie Watson, St. James Singers, and The Busy Mom’s choir.

Pat Exley, CWL president, welcomed and thanked everyone for coming to make the afternoon a success.  Darrell Gruber was Master of Ceremonies and Melanie Watson played the interlude between numbers.

The final selections, Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, got everyone singing, with all the kids in attendance taking the stage and leading the singing with Kathy Miller directing.

Proceeds from the Carol Festival went to Poplar Courts Nursing Home and Bethany Assisted Living. Audience members also brought nonperishable food items and winter items like toques, mitts, scarves and socks, all to be donated to the local Food Bank for those in need in the community.
