Regina police charge man with kidnapping

Police say an individual came into a business with a female, then held a knife to her back and got into a cab, fleeing the scene.

Regina Police Service were dispatched to a business on East Quance Street for the report of a male threatening individuals with a knife.

REGINA – Early Friday morning, a Regina man was arrested by police and charged with kidnapping and several other charges.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. the morning of Friday, March 21, Regina Police Service say, officers were dispatched to a business in the 2800 block of East Quance Street for the report of a male threatening individuals inside the business with a knife.

Police say the individual, who came into the business with a female, then held a knife to her back and got into a cab, fleeing the scene.

A short time later, a call came into the Communications Centre from what was believed to be the female inside the cab. The suspect was heard threatening the female and cab driver before exiting the vehicle.

Police were able to locate the suspect in the 400 Block of Toronto Street running eastbound with what appeared to be a firearm. After a brief foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody without incident. A search of the area revealed the firearm.

As a result of this investigation, a 35-year-old Regina man is charged with:

  • 2 x kidnapping;
  • 2 x assault with a weapon;
  • 2 x possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order;
  • assault;
  • mischief;
  • uttering threats;
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle;
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • careless storage of a firearm;
  • possession of a weapon;
  • breach of order of long term supervision.
