Roving Traffic Unit seizes 1 kg of cocaine during traffic stop

REGINA – Using a police service dog, RCMP officers have made an arrest and seized a kilogram of cocaine allegedly on its way from Alberta to Manitoba.

On March 18 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit were making proactive patrols and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 1, west of Regina. The traffic stop involved an SUV.

During subsequent investigation with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP police service dog, officers located and seized approximately one kilogram of cocaine inside the vehicle.

A 41-year-old man from Calgary, Alta., who told investigators he was travelling from Alberta to Manitoba, was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with:

  • one count, trafficking – cocaine; and
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine.

Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch and Regina Police Service assisted in this investigation.
