ESTEVAN - The Estevan Fire Rescue Service handled six calls from March 3-8.

The activity started March 3, when fire crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in northeast Estevan. Prior to responding, the EFRS was notified the alarm was due to electrical contractors performing tests on site, so crews stood down.

The following morning, just before 8 a.m., the fire department was called about a two-vehicle collision in the northeast. A duty officer responded and assisted at the scene. No entrapment occurred, but Fire Chief Rick Davies said there were minor injuries and minor damage.

Then on March 6, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the fire department was alerted to a possible diesel fuel spill in the northeast. The duty officer responded and investigated. The spill occurred along the roadway, and city crews spread sand in the area to assist with the cleanup. Davies said the area was to be monitored.

Another two-vehicle collision occurred on March 7 at approximately 10:50 a.m. in central Estevan. Crews responded and there was no entrapment. No injuries were reported to the EFRS and both vehicles sustained minor damage.

On March 8, the EFRS was dispatched to an elevator rescue call in east-central Estevan.

"Crews responded and assisted there. It was noted that three people were in a stalled elevator and were assisted from the elevator without incident," said Davies.

On March 9 at approximately 3:40 a.m., firefighters were called to a burning odour investigation at a residence in the northeast area. Crews responded and investigated, and determined it was an issue with an appliance in the residence.
