ROCANVILLE — Due to a recent dip in temperatures, work on the pool building has been paused until the mercury creeps up the thermometer a little bit.
“We were supposed to see the building start going up right now, but due to the weather, it might have been delayed a little bit, just because it’s minus a million out there,” Administrator Tanya Strandlund said. “But materials for the building have been showing up, so it will be going skyward soon, which is very exciting!”
The recreation centre has been busy with lots of rentals, being a nice warm spot to take a reprieve from the cold.
“It’s a busy spot,” confirmed Strandlund. “People use it for walking during the day as well, just because it’s indoors, it’s a nice, wide open space — you can visit, you can move around.”
The cold weather also forced the Santa Claus Parade to be bumped from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, when temperatures are predicted to rise. The following night, Wednesday, Dec. 4, is also late-night shopping in Rocanville.

Approvals by council
Dudley & Company will be doing the 2024 financial audit with council making the resolution and signing the engagement letter.
“They are a fantastic company, and they have been doing our audit since 2018,” Strandlund noted.
Western Municipal Consulting was appointed as the Town’s Board of Revision.
Sewer refund granted
A landowner on Carlton Street was granted a 75 per cent refund on their invoice for sewer work with the stipulation that they engage in preventative measures.
“They have agreed to that,” Strandlund said. “They’re going to do some yard work, remove some trees so that roots aren’t getting in there anyway.”
The town does have a policy in place where if a homeowner enlists the services of a plumber to clear the lines with camera footage, a certain percentage may be refunded.
“They pay for the services, and then they’re able to send all that to the Town Office, to myself, and request that partial refund,”Strandlund confirmed. “Anything over 20 feet from the homeowner’s house will be considered, as you never know where those roots are coming from.”
Refund requests brought to the town are then presented to council for consideration and possible approval.
