CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 48 calls from Oct. 10 to Oct. 17; some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- one animal call,
- four assaults,
- one breach of peace,
- two criminal harassments,
- one disturbing the peace,
- one false alarm,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- one fraud, four mischiefs,
- one possession of stolen property,
- one roadside suspension,
- one sexual interference,
- three suspicious persons,
- three thefts,
- 13 traffic offenses,
- one Trespass Act call,
- one uttering threats,
- three vehicle collisions, and
- two wellbeing checks.
911 is not an information line
On Oct. 10, a man from RM of Clayton called 911 reporting he could not get a hold of SaskTel. Canora/Sturgis RCMP spoke to the man and educated him that 911 should only be called for emergencies.
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Oct. 10 to a 911 call in Canora. The caller reported two cats keep coming up to him when he is outside his home. Police provided the caller with information on who to contact for animal related complaints and he was reminded that 911 should only be called for emergencies.
Failed alcohol screening
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP conducted a traffic stop in Preeceville on Oct. 10. The driver of a Ford F-350 failed an alcohol screening device test. The driver was issued a 72-hour driving suspension.
Gravel and dirt dispute
On Oct. 11, the Canora/Sturgis were dispatched to dispute between neighbours in Buchanan. Police attended and learned one neighbour purposely moved gravel and dirt on the sidewalk the caller had spent time cleaning up. Police spoke to both neighbours and mediated the conflict.
Severe fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Oct. 13 to a structure fire in Canora. When police arrived, a neighbouring structure had also caught fire. Police provided traffic control and assisted the Canora Fire Department with the investigation.
Slap fight
On Oct. 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint in Sturgis. Police investigated and learned that a woman was slapped by another woman during an argument. Police continue to investigate.
School break-in
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a multiple hit alarm on Oct. 14 at Canora Composite School. Police attended and located a man hiding in the building, who was arrested and charged with break and enter.
Assault results in arrest
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in Sturgis on Oct. 16. Police attended and learned the caller had been bitten, punched, and slapped. Police arrested an intoxicated suspect on scene and charged them with assault.
Fridge food theft
On Oct. 17, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call about a man entering a residence and taking food out of the caller’s fridge. Police attended the suspect’s residence and caught him cooking the stolen food. The man was charged with theft. The caller and the man are known to each other.
