It didn't take long to tear down the Civic Auditorium.
The demolition of the 60-year-old arena was virtually complete early Thursday afternoon, about 48 hours after the process began on Tuesday afternoon.
Rod March, the city's manager of parks and facilities, said the room that linked the Civic with the Power Dodge Curling Centre is still standing. It wasn't included in the project.
He's not surprised with how quickly the building went down. It could have been even quicker if not for the strong winds the last two days.
"I kind of expected it would take three or four days to get the building, and it was a very co-ordinated event on behalf of the contractors and the two excavators," said March.
The focus will now shift to cleaning up the arena's site, and taking out the concrete floor, foundations and piles. All of the metal will be recycled, while the wood will be taken to the landfill.
